Suzuki GB and the Auto Cycle Union Ltd (ACU) are pleased to announce the launch of the new ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy, a new Clubman racing series for 2007.
The series will run within the 2007 ACU-Dunlop Tyres MotoStar Cup, formerly the ACU Star Championship. The ACU-Dunlop Tyres MotoStar Cup will also include classes for Sport Production 125, 125GP (including the ACU Academy Challenge), 250GP and a new Sport Production class for bikes up to 1000cc. The Championship will also feature the F2 Sidecar Championship in association with the Formula Sidecar Racing Association (FSRA).
The new series is the first of two all new ACU 'Go Race' packages, designed to give new and existing club riders the chance to compete on a level playing field, both in terms of machine performance and cost. Details of the second package aimed at Sport Production riders will be announced shortly.
The Suzuki package will include a brand new Suzuki GSX-R600 with all racing accessories, plus Dunlop Tyres for the 8 Round Championship, Entry fees paid for all Rounds and a Dainese clothing package which includes leathers, boots, gloves and a back protector. Thanks to the support of a number of industry partners, including Suzuki GB, Crescent Suzuki, Dunlop Tyres, Micron, Performance Friction Products and Dainese, the ACU are able to offer this package for only £12,040.
Suzuki GB marketing manager Paul de Lusignan was delighted to announce the championship at a recent photoshoot, commenting, "Racing is at the forefront of Suzuki's business, and we know how important new blood is for our sport. With the ACU GSX-R Trophy we are able to provide a hassle free and low-cost way for newcomers to start racing".

Crescent Director Martyn James said: "Crescent is delighted to be involved
in this initiative designed to attract new blood into the sport of road
racing. We operate two of the most professional road racing teams in the
world and by supplying the bikes for this series we are focussing our
attention on helping the grass roots level.
"There's nothing more we would like to see than a young British talent
come through the ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy and challenge for a seat in our
Superbike or Grand Prix team. We want to help foster British Champions of
the future."

Phil Plater, Sales Manager, Dunlop Motorsport added, "This Championship will offer people the best route from road to track."

To emphasise the desire to attract new riders to the sport, the ACU are also adding a free Competitor Training Course and Novice Road Race Licence to the package, free of charge.

Jim Parker, Chairman of the ACU Road Race Committee is delighted with the new package, "This new series is the first of a number of initiatives by the ACU to promote motorcycle Road Racing to a new audience of participants. I am delighted by the way that our efforts have been received and supported by the wider industry and look forward to swelling the ranks of young motorcycle road racers, thereby moving a step closer to a British Road Race World Champion."

Participants in the ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy will also benefit from the full support of the ACU Academy, with free diet and fitness seminars at the National Sport Centre at Bisham Abbey and Sports Psychology seminars at Lilleshall.

To complete the package, the series will include fantastic end of season awards for the best under 23 year old rider and the best over 23 year old rider. There are a limited number of places on the grid for the 2007 ACU-Suzuki GSX-R Trophy, allocated on a first come first served basis. Riders are urged to secure their place with a £1000 deposit as soon as possible.

The ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy machines will be on show on the Suzuki and Dunlop stands at the National Motorcycle Show at the NEC 30th October/5th November 2006, where members of the public can sign up for the series.
